Cookies are small text files a site saves on your device. They make it work, remember your choices and, in some cases, collect statistics. The site also uses browser "web storage", which serves the same purpose.

Technical, always on. They keep the site working and remember your choices, so they do not require consent:

How to choose and change your mind
On your first visit a banner appears with two equally weighted buttons, "Decline" and "Accept". Until you choose, no measurement cookie is activated. You can change your choice at any time from the "Cookie preferences" link at the bottom of every page. The choice applies to the browser and device where you made it, and is asked again after 6 months, in a private window, or if you clear your browsing data.
You can also manage or delete cookies from your browser settings. If you prefer, Google offers an opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
